Indications

An antibiotic that fights bacteria is called Nintoin 100. It is applied to the treatment and avoidance of simple urinary tract infections. It functions by eradicating the bacteria responsible for the disease. However, it won't help with viral infections. The doctor's recommended dose and duration for taking Nintoin 100 should be followed.

Pharmacology

Nitrofurantoin is an antibacterial agent that works particularly well for infections of the urinary tract. Extremely solvent in urination, nitrofurantoin may give poop a brown hue. Ribosomal proteins and other macromolecules produced by bacteria are inactivated or altered by nitrofurantoin. It has been demonstrated that nitrofurantoin is effective against pursuing microscopic organisms: Grass-Feeding Aerobes Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Gather D streptococci, and Viridans gather streptococci are among the staphylococci that are Coagulase-negative and include Staphylococcus epidermidis. Escherichia coli, Citrobacter amalonaticus, Citrobacter diversus, Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Klebsiella ozaena are examples of Gram-negative Aerobes.

Dosage & Administration

Nitrofurantoin tablet (In adults):

• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections: 50-100 mg four times a day- the lower dosage level is recommended. Therapy should be continued for one week or for at least 3 days after sterility of the urine is obtained.
• For long-term suppressive therapy: In adults, a reduction of dosage to 50-100 mg at bedtime may be adequate.

Nitrofurantoin capsule (In adults):

• Acute Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): 50 mg four times daily for 7 days.
• Long-term suppression: 50-100 mg once a day.

Prophylaxis: 

• 50 mg four times daily for the duration of the procedure and for three days thereafter.

Nitrofurantoin SR capsule:

• Adults and Children over 12 years: One 100 mg capsule every 12 hours for seven days.

Genito-urinary surgical prophylaxis: 

• One capsule twice daily on the day of the procedure and for the next 3 days.

Nitrofurantoin suspension: 

Children: 5-7 mg/kg/day in four divided doses (contraindicated under one month of age). The average dose of Nintoin suspension for pediatric patients is as follows-

• 7 to 11 kg: ½ (2.5 ml) teaspoonfuls 4 times daily.
• 12 to 21 kg: 1 (5 ml) teaspoonful 4 times daily.
• 22 to 30 kg: 1½ (7.5 ml) teaspoonfuls 4 times daily.
• 31 to 41 kg: 2 (10 ml) teaspoonfuls 4 times daily.

Therapy should be continued for one week or for at least 3 days after sterility of the urine is obtained. For long-term suppressive therapy in children, doses as low as 1 mg/kg per 24 hours, given in a single dose or in two divided doses, may be adequate.

Interaction

When taken with Nitrofurantoin, antacids containing Magnesium Trisilicate diminish the rate and degree of absorption of Uricosuric medicines like Probenecid and Sulfinpyrazone and can limit Nitrofurantoin secretion in the renal tubules.

Contraindications

Contraindications include anuria, oliguria, and substantial impairment of renal function. This medication is contraindicated in pregnant women between the ages of 38 and 42 weeks, as well as during labor and delivery. Nitrofurantoin is also contraindicated in patients who have a history of allergy to the drug.

Side Effects

Nausea, headaches, and flatulence are the most common clinical side effects. Diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, emesis, dizziness, and tiredness are some of the less common side effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Classification B. In pregnant women, there are no sufficient and well-controlled trials. This medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Human breast milk has been found to contain trace quantities of nitrofurantoin. Because of the risk of serious side effects from Nitrofurantoin in nursing infants under the age of one month, a choice should be taken on whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking the drug, taking into account the drug's importance to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

If acute, sub-acute, or chronic pulmonary reactions occur, Nitrofurantoin should be discontinued. Antacid preparations containing magnesium trisilicate should not be taken while taking Nitrofurantoin.
